THEOGNIS 1263-1266 ~ my own translation


ὦ παῖ, τὴν μορφὴν μὲν ἔφυς καὶ καλός, ἀλλ' ἐπίκειται
καρτερὸς ἀγνώμων σῇ κεφαλῇ στέφανος·
ἰκτίνου γὰρ ἔχεις ἀγχιστρόφου ἐν φρεσὶν ἦθος,
ἄλλων ἀνδρώπων ῥήμασι πειθόμενος.


Boy, you grew your body so beautiful, but laid upon
your head is a resolutely unloving coronet,
for in your heart you have the ethics of a sea hawk,
